However in Chinese, SB means fool, or moron, it is used as a curse word.
Green Hat Problem in Chinese Culture
In China “wearing a green hat” (戴绿帽子 or dài lǜ mào zǐ) is an expression that Chinese use when a woman cheats on her husband or boyfriend because the phrase sounds similar to the word for cuckold. This apparently dates back to the Yuan dynasty when the relatives of prostitutes were forced to wear green hats.
Avoid Green Hats and SB
- Avoid giving green-colored hats to Chinese men.
- Avoid giving SB printed products to Chinese.
- Don’t wear green hats or SB printed shirts in front of Chinese, esp when you are in China, if you do not want to hear gigglings of women.
